African Swine Fever

Current information on restrictions in the Lower Oder Valley National Park due to African Swine Fever in the Uckermark district.

Due to the current occurrence of African Swine Fever (ASF) in wild boars, officially ordered protective measures apply in parts of the Uckermark district.

The containment measures affect the use of designated local paths, including cycling, hiking, and water trails. Furthermore, riding, hunting, and fishing are prohibited in the restricted areas.
Dogs must be kept strictly on a leash, and ASF gates must be properly closed after passing through.

Entering forests and open landscapes (fields, meadows, agricultural areas, all areas outside closed localities and outside built-up areas) is prohibited.

The designated restricted areas must be observed. Due to the current situation, short-term adjustments to the restricted areas may be necessary. The use of alternative routes is recommended.

General Information on African Swine Fever

African Swine Fever is a notifiable animal disease affecting domestic and wild pigs. African Swine Fever is harmless to humans and other domestic and farm animal species besides pigs.

Modes of Transmission

  • direct contact with infected animals or their carcasses – blood is the most efficient transmission route
  • consumption of food waste or pork products/preparations
  • indirect transmission routes – vehicles, contaminated equipment including hunting equipment, agricultural machinery and tools, clothing

Given the current animal disease situation with several confirmed cases in Brandenburg, it is important to comply with all ordered measures to prevent further spread. This applies not only to livestock farmers and hunters, but all citizens and day-trippers can contribute to containing the spread of the disease through their own behavior.
