In the forest and near forested areas, dogs must always be kept on a leash. In addition, throughout the Brandenburg region, a leash requirement applies to all four-legged friends at public assemblies, parades, in elevators, and at folk festivals and other events where crowds are present. Animals must also generally be kept on a leash at sports grounds and campsites. The same applies to all enclosed and delimited public spaces, such as parks, gardens, and green spaces. A general leash requirement also applies in shopping centers, pedestrian zones, administrative buildings, and public transport, as well as in apartment buildings, on access paths, in stairwells, or other rooms used by the community. It is legally required that animals must always be led in such a way that neither people, animals, nor property are endangered. In public transport and administrative buildings, every dog must also wear a muzzle that prevents potential biting. This applies to every dog of any kind, regardless of size, weight, or breed.

These regulations are excluded in designated off-leash areas for dogs, where animals are allowed to move freely without a leash. Dogs considered dangerous are also allowed to run freely in these areas but must wear a muzzle to prevent biting.

In general, animals in Brandenburg are not allowed on children’s playgrounds, sunbathing lawns, or in swimming baths. Public bathing spots are also off-limits. There are no options or special regulations through leash or muzzle requirements here; bringing animals is generally prohibited.

Mobile internet applications are constantly gaining importance in private and professional communication. In order to provide people with free and secure internet access at locations distributed throughout the state of Brandenburg, the Ministry of Economic Affairs has funded the establishment of publicly accessible Wi-Fi hotspots in implementation of a parliamentary resolution.
