Tree Planting Campaign
Trees for the Uckermark
Diverse, healthy forests for the future
Let us work together to make the forest fit for the future. In cooperation with the city foresters in the Uckermark, we are planting young trees in existing forests to increase biodiversity. Everyone, whether guest or citizen, can participate: by purchasing tree seedlings or by lending a hand during the planting campaigns – or ideally both!

Planting campaign 2025 in Angermünde
More deciduous wood is needed in the Angermünde city forest. Even though deciduous trees – primarily beech and oak – already grow on about two-thirds of the forest area, there is a need for action, especially to increase tree species diversity. Under the guidance of city forester Mr. Specht, deciduous trees are to be planted in the pine stands near Lake Wolletz. The affected forest areas are already fenced in some places, so that the saplings will be protected from browsing by wildlife.
What makes it special: The young trees are obtained directly from natural regeneration in the Angermünde city forest. Where enough young trees sprout under an old tree, some of them are dug up and replanted elsewhere. These so-called wildlings are ideally adapted to the local soil and climate conditions. They are replanted fresh with their own roots and soil, making them significantly more vital and robust. These include wild cherry, sycamore, Norway, and field maple, as well as wild pear. The wildlings are to be supplemented with oak saplings from a regional tree nursery. Together with the tree species that already grow naturally in the Angermünde city forest, such as birch, red oak, and aspen, a species-rich mixed forest is to be created, which brings both ecological and economic advantages. In addition, the deciduous forest ensures higher carbon sequestration and demonstrably better water retention and storage, which is an important aspect, especially in our drought-prone region.
This year’s planting campaign took place on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
